About the Area
Serenata del Mar is located on a pristine 12-mile long beach known as Playa Blanca. The Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo airport (airport code: ZIH) is at one end of the beach road and the tiny, tranquil village of Barra de Potosi (population 300) is located at the other.
It is a pleasant 20 minute walk along the beach to reach the enramadas (seafood restaurants) located on the beach in front of the village, where many people enjoy spending the day in a hammock between grilled snapper and guacamole feasts and dips in the gentle sea. People from Mexico as well as tourists from all over the world rent and live in the beautiful houses sprinkled along the beach.
Tours of the bird life in the lagoon, fishing trips, whale watching, and other activities can often be arranged through people in the restaurants at Barra de Potosi. See the activities page for more information about things to see and do in the area.
There are several grocery shops, a produce stand, and a handful of night time restaurants (the enramadas close in the evenings), in the 3 street by 3 street village of Barra de Potosi. You should be able to find all of your basic needs for your kitchen and comfort in the village.
The side by side cities of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa are a 25 minute drive from Serenata del Mar. You may easily get there using a rental car (available at the airport), by hiring a taxi, or by taking a local bus.
Rental cars and Taxis are available at the airport to get to Serenata del Mar.
